Apple will not provide the AirPods Pro 2 with fitness tracking features

Widely rumored, Apple is expected to launch the second generation of AirPods Pro later this year, three years after the release of the first generation.

There were speculations that the AirPods Pro 2 might integrate health tracking capabilities for the first time. However, a new report from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg downplays the significance of this possibility.

According to Gurman, the second generation of AirPods Pro will not include any fitness tracking capabilities. It is likely that the AirPods Pro 2 will focus more on providing high-quality audio than health-related features.

Rumors surrounding the AirPods Pro 2 have occasionally suggested that Apple might add some form of fitness tracking features to the personal audio devices. Depending on the rumors, the premium wireless earbuds could gain elements enabling body temperature monitoring and heart rate monitoring. However, it is now believed that fitness features might not necessarily arrive in the 2022 update.

Apple won’t bring heart rate monitoring to AirPods Pro 2

Mark Gurman wrote in his Power On newsletter that the 2022 update of AirPods Pro is unlikely to feature heart rate monitoring.

He also confirmed the existence of a new model expected to launch later in 2022. He stated, “If you bought the original AirPods Pro when they launched at the end of 2019, your batteries may be nearing the end of their assumed lifespan, or at least their reliability is diminishing, and that could drive users to upgrade.”

It is unlikely for body temperature monitoring and heart rate monitoring features to arrive in the 2022 update. However, Gurman adds that both features have been explored internally and may arrive someday.

Other rumors suggested that new features for AirPods Pro 2 could include a redesigned charging case with a microphone, audio accommodation function, support for audio playback without loss, and a speaker to emit sound for the Find My network.

It’s worth noting that AirPods Pro faced some reliability and continuity issues. Apple currently has an AirPods Pro service program, allowing users to replace their AirPods for free.
